Mud body
is the master control — soft-peak heavy cream; a double face amplifies every consistency error, so test more often, not less. Square landing: both pads must contact together, so keep the bar face flat to the surface at the instant of the stomp; a wide tool punishes a cocked wrist with an obviously uneven figure. Even cadence and one-third overlap: the eye reads irregular spacing as a flaw before it reads an irregular figure, and a broad stamp makes spacing errors bigger. Reload before dry — a starved double head drags across twice the width. Clean immediately, without exception: joint compound sets like soft concrete, and hemp that dries loaded is finished — the pads cake into stiff blocks that never stamp clean again, and a double head is twice the fiber to lose. Wash both pads out under running water the moment you stop, work the mud out of the base of each fill, rinse to clear water, shake, and dry. The clear coat shields the wood bar; only an immediate rinse shields the fiber.
