✕CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
- Not a StopDrip gun: its clean stops are the thumb lever’s doing — a reflex you perform, not an engineered after-release behavior; the claimed anti-ooze technology lives on the 46310 and 46420.
- Not a 13″/32 oz. gun (the 46420’s format), and not a sausage gun (a sealed-barrel class this open frame is the exact opposite of).
- Not the gang-box bruiser: nothing here says fragile, but the plated-versus-painted split in this line’s Professional tier exists for a reason, and a tool that lives loose among iron favors the 46482’s chrome.
- Not a remover or smoother — both ends of a recaulk belong to the 43660.
- And not a source of internal-mechanism claims: the drive account above is pattern knowledge, flagged as such .

How the pros run it

Lever before lift, always
The friction family’s law: end the bead, dump the pressure, then move the nozzle — the 46435 makes it a thumb-flick, so let it become reflex. Steer with speed, not squeeze. Fix a working pressure and control bead size with travel pace; chasing diameter with the trigger is how beads scallop. Feel the plate. A friction drive talks through the trigger — clean bite, or the mush of slip on too-stiff, too-cold material; when you feel slip, stop and warm the cartridge instead of squeezing harder (no rated limit exists to tell you where the edge is). Keep the rod clean. The plate’s grip is only as good as the flats it bites; cured sealant on the hex is grip stolen — rag it at cleanup. Mind the open frame’s one trade. What sheds mess also admits it: a skeleton gun dropped nozzle-down into mud brings the mud home, so hang it or set it on its frame, not its face. The orange powder coat needs a wipe and nothing else.
