  • Not a working-pail replacement: the pail’s case — one-way contamination, skin-free bulk, shallow charges at height — stands untouched for any job with real duration, and the line doc’s pair call is binding both ways: selling the clip as a pail substitute would be false; selling it as the small-job companion is exactly true.
  • Not a roller accessory: nothing about rim-mounted brush logistics serves a roller — production loading is the 95003 bucket-and-grid’s world.
  • Not a five-gallon tool: the class is the friction-lid can’s companion (supported can sizes unverified even so).
  • Not a pour aid: a clip is not a spout, and pouring with one mounted just gives the pour-back a new obstacle.
  • And not license to skip the stir, the proper open, or the clean close — it absolves exactly one sin, the rim wipe, and no others.

How the pros run it

01

Load the tip, not the brush

Touch-up work wants the bristles’ outer third carrying paint; deep loads exist to be wiped off, which defeats the scale of the job. One wipe surface, used every dip. The clip earns nothing if the channel still catches the tired strokes. Park deliberately. The clip rest is for pauses measured in moments; wrapped-and-lidded is for pauses measured in minutes (rest mechanism per physical product). Clean the clip wet. Whatever its material (unstated), the clip that gets rinsed in its working minute stays a precision rest; cured buildup turns any rest into a smear station. Respect the scale boundary. The moment a touch-up becomes a repaint — more than a few minutes of continuous brushing — stop, decant, and let the pail do what pails do.
