✓CHOOSE THIS WHEN

  • Non-Spark Brass Blade: Ideal for use in environments where sparks could be hazardous, and for scraping delicate surfaces without causing damage.
  • Stiff Blade: Provides the strength needed for effective scraping and removal tasks.
  • Durable Nylon Handle: Offers a comfortable grip and long-lasting durability.

✕CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN

  • Stiff blade — a removal tool; it can’t conform to spread compound.
  • Hard, heavy scraping where steel is permitted.
  • You’d be under-edged and overpaying; the carbon 02400 (same 3″ chisel geometry) holds a far better edge on demanding work.
  • Prying and demolition.
  • Brass is too soft to lever a cured-adhesive floor or pop tile — that abuse belongs to hardened steel, and specifically to the bent scrapers.

How the pros run it

01

Grip and angle

conventional — fist for a broad pass, low 15–30° angle, chisel bevel flat. Respect the metal: brass is soft. Do not pry hard, lever, or hammer this blade — it bends and the edge mushrooms, where a steel blade would stay true. Scrape with it; don’t excavate with it. Edge care: expect to dress the edge more often than a carbon knife’s, with a file, keeping the single bevel; a brass edge dulls and rolls sooner because that softness is the safety feature. No solvent/rust ritual to worry about on the blade — brass doesn’t rust — but the nylon handle and general solvent exposure follow the same sense as the rest of the line. The point of the tool: if the site does not require non-sparking tools and the surface is hard, you are carrying a softer, pricier edge for no benefit — that is the carbon 02400’s job.
