✓CHOOSE THIS WHEN

  • Flexible Blade: Perfect for applying compounds, smoothing, and taping joints.
  • High-Quality Stainless Steel Blade: Hardened for durability and longevity. Rust-Resistant.
  • Versatile Use: Ideal for a range of tasks including applying and smoothing joint compound.

✕CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN

  • Loading heavy mud with a feather-soft touch — if you want a last pass that sands to nothing, the SuperFlexx™ 06857 flexes further; this knife is the firmer all-rounder.
  • Wide fill and skim coats — a 6″ is too narrow to feather a seam out to 10–14″; that is taping-knife territory, and butt joints especially need the wide blades.
  • Scraping demolition or old paint — a joint knife is an application tool, not a stiff scraper.
  • And hygiene-critical, no-crevice environments — for a knife with no handle scale to trap compound, see the one-piece Full-metal™ 06879.

How the pros run it

01

Steer by bow, not by muscle

Thumb pressure at the handle center bows the double-hollow-ground blade to leave a joint slightly proud for sanding; pressure to a corner feathers that side out. Angle: low to lay compound, raised to strike it off level. Edge: stainless holds a clean square edge; dress it with a file if it dents, but it will not need the frequent attention carbon does. Wash-up: rinse and rack — that is the entire ritual. There is no drying step, which over a career is the quiet reason many remodelers own nothing but stainless.
