✓CHOOSE THIS WHEN
- Compatibility: Ideal for use with Hyde dust-free sanders.
- Sizes Available: 120, 150, 180, and 240 grit.
- Longer Lasting : Lasts 3x longer than standard aluminum oxide sand paper.
✕CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
- Leveling a rough or ridged surface — 180 cuts far too slowly; 120 knocks down (09944) and 150 levels (09938).
- Sanding paint film between primer and finish coats — that is 240 (09940); 180 is a bare-compound and adhesion-scuff grit, and used between wet-edge coats it can leave visible scratch.
- Contoured trim and curved casing the flat rectangle bridges over — the 5″ foam sponge disc (45385).
- And broad flat field at power speed — the 9″ net disc (09921) on the radial sander; the sheet is the hand-and-pole tool for edges, corners, and finish passes.

How the pros run it
01
Judge scratch, not flatness
by 180 the wall is already flat; the target is a uniform, directionless sheen under raking light. Raking light must match the finish: play the same low, glancing light the finished sheen will later catch, or you will approve a scratch the paint later exposes. Cross the 150 lines: stroke perpendicular to the previous grit so 180 erases rather than deepens. Light hand: 180 is a refiner; force does not make it a cutter, it only risks burnishing paint on a scuff job. Do not treat it as the top of the ladder: for bare compound under sheen, 180 is the finish; for paint film between coats, 240 is a separate, finer tool, not an optional “extra-fine.”
