- Detail line work — muntins, small sash, slim casings, tight inside corners — where 3″ is far too much brush; drop to the 2-1/2″ (47372) or smaller.
- Broad coverage of a face — even at 3″ a soft sash is a line-and-lay-in tool, not a fill tool; cover with an E-volution flat or oval, or a roller.
- Heavy or exterior coatings over rough surfaces — the soft flex gives out, and the Millenium is positioned for interior walls and trim; use the firm E-volution outdoors.
- Glass-flat oil and varnish lay-off (natural white bristle, Hyde Extra 47383 at 4″) and lacquer/shellac/strong solvents (chip brush) — keep the nylon blend to waterborne paint.
