Is this the right tool for your job?
✕CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
- Not straight rigid cutting — a limber .058″ blade wanders where the job wants a stiff line; the .072″ bevels (62600/62630/62750) are the straight-trim blades.
- Not soft-fiber slicing, which wants a flat grind.
- Not general reach or stroke — at 5-1/2″ it is the short blade, and the 9″ 086 owns reach.
- Not a corrosion solution (HSS resists heat and abrasion, not rust), and not a finished knife.
- And do not rank it against the 62900 or pair it with a handle on assumption — both are open questions on the record .

How the pros run it
01
Let the blade flex — don’t force it
The .058″ thickness is a feature: guide the limber blade along the contour and let it follow the surface; forcing a limber blade into a straight rigid cut just makes it wander. Hone the facet. Maintain the bevel on its angled facet, strop the burr off the back, and never flatten it on a stone. Expect HSS to resist the stone — the wear resistance you paid for is also honing resistance; use a proper abrasive. Keep it dry — HSS is a tool steel, not stainless. Confirm the handle and clamp — because the handle fit is unverified, check that whatever handle you use clamps the .690″ width positively before running it, and keep exposure short on a thin blade so it does not buckle.
