Is this the right tool for your job?
✓CHOOSE THIS WHEN
- High Carbon Steel Blade: Offers durability and sharpness for tough scraping tasks.
- Chisel Edge: Ideal for removing paint and putty with precision.
- Full-Tang Blade: Enhances strength and longevity of the scraper.
✕CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
- Filling and finishing.
- A stiff blade cannot conform to the wall, so pressed into a patch it leaves ridges at the blade corners (“tram-lines”) and pulls compound out of shallow depressions instead of feathering over them.
- Applying spackle, bedding glazing, skim-finishing — those are the flexible 02100’s and the SuperFlexx 02102’s jobs, same width, opposite blades.
- It is also not a demolition tool: the 1-1/2″ width is a precision scraper, and a broad field of releasing paint or a floor of cured adhesive calls for a wide scraper or a bent leverage blade, with the 02150 coming back for the corners, edges, and stubborn spots the big tools miss.

How the pros run it
01
Grip
handle in the palm, index finger down the spine for angle control on precision passes, full fist for power. Angle: low — 15–30°. The blade should shear material off, not chisel into it. Direction: push for power, pull for control. Edge care: a scraping knife wants a clean, square, slightly keen edge — dress it square with a mill file when it dents or rolls; a damaged edge telegraphs every flaw into the surface. Carbon in practice: this blade hones to a keener scraping edge than any stainless in the line and holds it well — that is the reason to choose carbon for a dedicated scraper — but it demands the after-work ritual: wipe it dry, especially after paste or stripper, and oil it for storage. If you won’t do that ritual, the wet-work answer is the stainless 2″ 02300 instead.
