The three-position slide exists so you can match exposure to the cut; the commonest self-inflicted damage on a utility knife is running a fully extended blade through a shallow cut and cracking the corner on the surface beneath. Set the shallowest position that reaches through the material. Flip before you swap. A trapezoid blade has two live corners — when the leading corner dulls or chips, pop the blade, rotate it end-for-end, and reseat; you have a second full-life edge before the blade is spent. Renew at the drag, not at the failure. The moment the blade stops parting and starts tearing or requiring a second pass, it is telling you to flip or change — pushing a dull utility blade harder is how the blade skates off the line into a knuckle. Keep the magazine loaded. The in-handle storage means the swap happens at the work, not back at the box; reload it from the dispenser at the start of the day so the knife is self-sufficient.
