- Rough or textured masonry.
- Heavy knockdown, stucco, brick, split-face or concrete block — the fine microfiber filaments snag, fray, and tear on aggressive texture (Hyde says so outright).
- Deep-nap masonry is polyester’s job; see the Lamb Pro 3/4″ (47365) and 1-1/4″ (47366) in the line doc.
- Big open walls and ceilings.
- This is a small-area and detail cover; a full room’s walls want a 9″ (47302/47300) so you are not painting a wall four inches at a time.

How the pros run it
01
Pre-dampen
the cover for water-based paint — roll it over a damp rag and spin it out — so the first load feeds the wall, not the dry fiber. Load full and quiet: a correctly loaded microfiber cover is heavy and silent; a hiss or skip means it is starved, and drips mean you overloaded it. Press lightly. This is the one discipline microfiber demands and the one beginners get wrong: the enormous capacity that makes the cover good is also what makes it flood a surface when you bear down — Hyde states it plainly (“the massive paint capacity requires a lighter touch”). Let the 3/4″ core coast; its inertia does the smoothing. Lay off each patch with one light set of passes in a single direction to align the stipple. Clean it to keep it: a quality microfiber cover is a wash-and-reuse tool, not a throwaway — spin the paint out, wash in warm soapy water until it runs clear (paint left at the fiber base dries into a stiff core that ruins the next job), and stand it on end to dry so it never develops a flat spot. Hyde’s honest caveat applies: microfiber rinses slower than a cheap cover, so budget the extra minute.
