The cover wants the 1/4″-nap discipline
reload often (short nap, small tank), keep pressure light, build with thin coats, and lay off in one direction for an even sheen; de-lint the woven cover before first use. The cage changes one thing for the better: you can spread a coat with a touch more confidence than on a wire frame, because the frame won’t bow and drop an edge — but “a touch more” is not “bear down.” Light pressure still gives the best finish; the cage just removes the flex penalty when you do press. Washing is easier here too: spin the cover off the cage, rinse until the water runs clear, dry it standing on end, and keep the frame for the next sleeve.
