✓CHOOSE THIS WHEN
- Non-Spark Brass Blade: Ideal for use in environments where sparks could be hazardous, and for scraping delicate surfaces without causing damage.
- Stiff Blade: Provides the strength needed for effective scraping and removal tasks.
- Durable Nylon Handle: Offers a comfortable grip and long-lasting durability.
✕CHOOSE A DIFFERENT TOOL WHEN
- Anything where you don’t actually need brass.
- By pure performance it is out-scraped by any steel 2″ stiff — the carbon-or-stainless 02300 holds an edge far longer and cuts harder — so choosing brass when the atmosphere isn’t hazardous and the surface isn’t delicate is paying a premium for a softer tool.
- It is stiff, so it does not fill or finish (it can’t conform; that’s the flexible 2″ knives, 02250/01150).
- It is not a chisel — for flat-riding, get-under-the-coating work in a plant, the brass chisels 02215 (1-5/16″) and 02420 (3″) are ground for it; the 02320’s square edge is the generalist.
- And it is not a pry or force tool — soft brass sets under leverage.

How the pros run it

Work with the softness, not against it
Brass won’t hold an edge like steel — dress it more often, and don’t try to power it through material that really wants a steel scraper; you’ll just deform the edge. Square-edge technique. Like any square stiff scraper, work it at a low 15–30° angle and let the edge shear the deposit rather than chiselling into the surface. Concentrate the pressure. Two inches keeps your force focused — steer the edge onto the stubborn spots. Protect the non-spark property. Don’t grind it on a steel-contaminated wheel or let steel swarf embed in the soft face; dress it clean so it stays truly non-sparking. Delicate-surface mindset: let the brass sacrifice itself — ease the pressure and let the soft edge do the protecting.
