How the pros run it

Grip
across the handle, thumb behind the blade, because the whole skill here is managing bend — you feed the flex, letting the blade lie flatter as you feather and lifting pressure to pull the coat to nothing. Pressure: light and decreasing through a feather stroke; this blade rewards a soft hand and punishes a heavy one by chattering or leaving a wave. Coats: thin, and this is the last of them — the ExtraFlex is the finisher, not the builder, so it comes out after the standard-flex blade has laid the body. Steel: high-carbon hones keen and flexes true; wipe it dry after water-based compound. Don’t ask it to dig — the limberness that makes it a finisher makes it useless as a scraper.
