Load fully, lay light
A 3/8″ nap holds a real charge — load it off the tray screen or a bucket grid until the fabric is saturated but not dripping, then let the nap deliver the paint at the weight of your hand; pressing harder is the amateur tell that leaves fat edges and spatter. De-lint before the first pass. A budget knit-class cover is the most likely in the catalog to shed, so wrap a new cover in painter’s tape and rip it off (or wash and spin it) before it ever meets paint — a shedding cover salts fuzz into the wet film. Keep the wet edge alive in floor-to-ceiling columns, overlapping into the previous still-wet pass. Cleanup or toss: water-based paint rinses out with warm water worked through the nap until it runs clear — but on a primer or a rental job, retiring the cover is often the rational call, which is exactly why it’s sold three to a bag.
